Introduction Part Three: Let's Dare To Imagine Together

One final inspiration for this book is the popular contemporary song I Can Only Imagine written, recorded, and performed by Bart Millard and and his band MERCY ME (first recorded in 1999, Simpleville Music/ASCAP).

Imagine!
New Lyrics by Kerbe Lee

Only imagine how it was back then, before time was set, before Earth or men.
Only imagine when You made our sun did You laugh or dance when the work was done?
Only imagine. Only imagine.
Did You sing with the angels? Greet Your Dad each day?
Dash through gates of pearls? Skip or run or play?
Did You ever ponder what it would be like
When You entered my world knowing You must die?
Only imagine. Help me imagine.

Only imagine during Creation week, as the Spirit soared, did you steal a peek.
Only imagine when the flowers bloomed did You stare in awe at what once was gloom?
Only imagine. Only imagine.
Did You help hang the planets and each bright, twinkling star?
Did You smile with the Father as our moon was placed afar?
Did You ever think ’bout how that crown of thorns
That you’d wear to the cross would make you bleed that morn?
Only imagine. Help me imagine.

Only imagine in those long past years before Lazarus as you wept real tears.
Only imagine coming to this earth knowing that this trip would mean human birth.
Only imagine. Only imagine.
Did you speak with the Father about Enoch and his walk
Just before men were wretched, every deed, thought, and talk?
Did you know what was hap’ning in that stable “Christmas” morn
Or when hidden in that tomb with the temple curtain torn?
Only imagine. Help me imagine.

Ready or not let’s begin the journey (tomorrow?). It’s the trip to which Santa Claus of the film Miracle on 34th Street alluded when he spoke of traveling to a special nation – the Imagine-nation. The path has been like skipping along with the Scarecrow following a path of yellow bricks on the way to a mythical land called Oz. I like to think that my road’s destination is a whole lot better than the trail to Emerald City. Join me if you dare. After all, we can only imagine

As a whistle-wetter…here are some of the characters you will meet in the following pages and an opening salvo:

Good Angels: Michael (warrior general), Gabriel (creative assistant and builder), Allen (choir director), Zerub (messenger), Raphael (reporter)

Evil Angels:   Lucifer, Dagon, Anak

Part One: In the beginning

1 - Heaven

As was his custom for one so full of enthusiasm and energy, Jesus came skipping and whistling down the gold-paved boulevard almost colliding with Michael and Gabriel. Those two angels were having a conversation just inside the sapphire and pearl gates near the bridge over the River of Life.
“Whoa! Watch it, young fellow!” cautioned Michael laughingly.
“Sorry,” apologized Jesus.
“What’s the hurry?” questioned Gabriel.
“Gotta see my father over by the throne. See you guys later.” The angels mumbled a hurried farewell as Jesus scurried away, now humming a favorite tune.
