In the beginning…8. Planning Room
The next
day found Jesus in his drawing room reviewing the myriad sketches and lists on
which he had been working for some time. His Father appeared in the half-open
doorway.
“May I
come in?” God asked.
“Of
course, Father, I was just about to come and get you to find out if you had a
few minutes to look over my latest work,” Jesus replied.
“Be
happy to, Son; what exactly do you have in store for Day 5?” God inquired.
“I’ve
been working on lots of drawings of creatures to swim in the oceans and fly
through the sky. I call it ‘Fish and Fowl Day’ with the fish being the
ocean-swimmers and fowl or birds being the sky-flyers,” Jesus explained. “There
will be other swimmers besides fish; some of these will be made along with the
fish, and some will not be created until the first half of Day 6. There will
also be additional flyers besides the birds; they, too, will wait until the
sixth day. Then I’ve even thought how neat it would be if some of the birds
didn’t ever fly at all. Man would have an interesting time figuring out that
one.”
“It
should prove to him that you and I have a sense of humor, Son,” God suggested.
“That’s
exactly what I thought, Dad,” Jesus concluded. “Would you look at these
drawings and tell me what you think?”
“Sure,
Son,” his Father agreed. Then after a few moments of shuffling through several
stacks of papers, he added, “You’ve really been busy, Jesus. These are
incredible, creative, and so varied. There aren’t two alike. They’re all
different colors and shapes and…”
Jesus
interrupted, “Yes, and look at the lists of behavior traits and characteristics
at the bottom of each page. I’ve been putting a lot of thought into each and
every creature that is going to inhabit the oceans or fly in the air.”
“Man is
going to live in a world that will be truly amazing,” God pointed out.
“He
surely is!” Jesus stated excitedly.
God
noticed a tall stack of papers on a table in the corner of the room. They were
covered with a piece of purple cloth, but even so the pile appeared at least a
foot and a half high. “What are those?” He inquired.
Jesus glanced
up to see what God had referenced and saw him admiring the corner table. “Those
are for Day 6; I’ve been doing some advance planning. No fair peeking.”
God
accepted that graciously and moved back to the “Fish and Fowl Day” diagrams.
“These are really amazing, Son. Have you thought of what to name each of them?”
“Yes,
but if it’s all right with you, Father, I thought we could wait awhile and let
our first man name these birds and fish and even the land animals we will make
on Day 6,” Jesus recommended.
“Sounds
like a plan!” God interjected catching his Son’s enthusiasm. “When will you be
ready for Day 5 of creation, Son? Some of the angels are getting rather
impatient.”
“How
about first thing tomorrow? We could gather at the overlook and watch the sun
rise, Father,” Jesus suggested. “That will be a fitting beginning to another
remarkable day.”
“Great idea,
Jesus,” God affirmed. “I’ll get Gabriel and Michael to start spreading the
word. See you tomorrow.”
“Bye,
Dad; and thanks for your support,” Jesus acknowledged.
“You’re
welcome, Son,” God replied. “Always remember, we’re a team.”
“You,
me, and the Holy Spirit; right, Dad?” Jesus exclaimed.
