As Earth Churns…30. The Planning Room

Gabriel looked at his fellow worker and said, “Jesus, how long’s it been since your Father assigned us this task? Seems like forever.”

“No, not forever,” Jesus alleged, “just several centuries. What’s the latest from Raphael and the Discovery Team? I haven’t read the Heavenly Herald in quite some time.”

Gabriel straightened eagerly, “I make time to read it every day. No wonder you don’t with all we’ve been working on…the boat, the animal list, and your rainbow idea. I never thought this whole project would be so complicated.”

“I know what you mean, Gabe; but the Father wants this all done right. We’re just about ready to report our ideas to Him. What do you think?”

Gabriel stated excitedly, “I say let’s do it!”

Equally elated, Jesus said, “Okay, I’ll let Him know we want a conference as soon as is convenient.”

Then God took a step toward the woman; Adam moved slightly to one side so as to not be a partial shield any longer. Eve fell to her knees with head down and arms clasped; she shook violently in a cold shiver fearing the worst. Surely her short lifespan had come to an end because of her foolish indulgence. These thoughts raced through her mind in a split second’s time. She didn’t have long to wait. “Eve,” the Creator’s tone was remarkably comforting as though He knew He would get no pleasure from what He was about to decree, “I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” A sigh of relief seemed to emanate from the woman cringing in the dust as she realized God’s wrath, if such it was, had now shifted to her husband.           As was his custom for one so full of enthusiasm and energy, Jesus came skipping and whistling down the gold-paved boulevard almost colliding with Michael and Gabriel. Those two angels who were having a conversation just inside the sapphire and pearl gates near the bridge over the River of Life. “Whoa! Watch it, young fellow!” cautioned Michael laughingly. “Sorry,” apologized Jesus. “What’s the hurry?” questioned Gabriel. “Gotta see my father over by the throne.
